Unique Programs:

PBCGME has created unique programs to support our residents, and community. At PBCGME, we believe that professional and community service are the hallmarks of good physicians. We also believe that the emotional and physical health of our residents is vital to their success. To that end, we have created several programs to support our community and residents. These include:

Critical Incident Stress Management Team:
The concept of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) originated in the military, and migrated to law enforcement and other first responders who may be exposed to challenging situations in the line of their duty. PBCGME brought the concept of GSM to medical education, and has trained peers available to assist medical students and residents in adjusting to difficult situations which may include grief, trauma or disaster.
Disaster Response:
PBCGME had formed disaster response teams, comprised of board-certified fellows, and residents-in-training, to respond to the needs of our facilities, as well as sister facilities across the state, and region. These teams have responded, in the past, to PBCGME as well as other HCA-affiliated facilities on Florida's West Coast, during and following major hurricane strikes.
Residents Day Out:
Each year, the Regional DME, DMEs and Program Directors host a recognition event for our residents. Residents are excused from patient care responsibilities to attend a leisurely outing with their leadership team. Prior venues have included picnics and recreation at Carlin Beach Park in Jupiter, and Peanut Island in the Intracoastal Waterway/Lake Worth Lagoon.
Graduation:
All residents are invited to the annual graduation party, which has transitioned from a formal gala to an informal beach party. It's an opportunity for residents to unwind, interact, and wish our graduates well as they prepare to enter fellowships, or private practice.
Support from Administration:
Seemingly rare in light of today's economic times, PBCGME benefits from extremely strong support by the CEOs of our facilities, as well as the strength of H CA East Florida Division. While many GME programs are under fiscal constraints causing significant cutbacks, with the support of H CA our programs continue to flourish, grow and develop.
Support from Faculty:
PBCGME has been built upon a culture of volunteerism. Our faculty are not compensated for the time they put into teaching; rather they do it because they enjoy what they do, and the immeasurable rewards of teaching students and residents. This culture has permeated our training programs, where our residents collectively donate hundreads of hours per year to community service.
Mandatory Didactics:
Students and House Staff are excused from their duties to attend mandatory lectures, generally given twice per day. With strong support of board-certified faculty who give the lectures, and back-up by residents in case an emergency prevents the attending from giving lecture, PBCGME boasts a 100% first-time board-certification pass rate across all of our programs!
