Absences, Holidays, Vacation Policy:
1. UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
Unexcused absences from any rotation or clinic will be deducted from vacation time.
Ail leave of absence/vacation requests should be submitted at least 45 days in advance. All requests are subject to staffing requirements prior to approval.
2. HOLIDAYS
Listed below are the holidays that will be observed by residents. On-call residents will be required to work their assigned holiday schedules.
- New Year's Day
- Memorial Day
- July 4 th
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas
3. ELIGIBILITY FOR LEAVE
Subject to Hospital policy, The Program D rector with the concurrence of the Regional D rector of Medical Education may have the prerogative, for educational purposes, of granting a total of ninety (90) days leave for any academic year, which time must be made up on a day for day basis. In the event that more than ninety (90) days leave is required in one year, a new contract must be negotiated. For details regarding statutory eligibility and hospital regulations for other types of leave, please contact the Human Resources Department
4. VACATION
a. First year residents are allowed fifteen (15) working days of vacation, professional, sick or other leave time. Residents are allowed fifteen (15) working days of vacation, professional, sick or other leave and five (5) working days for CME each year. Two, separate five-day periods (ten days) of vacation time is allowed continuous; the other five days should be taken separately (no more than two continuous weekdays).
b. Requests for vacation time should be submitted to the Administrative DME at least forty-five (45) days in advance and be approved the. Clinic Drector (if applicable), Program Director and Associate or Regional DME When necessary or appropriate residents must find their own coverage.
c. Residents may not have vacation time during the last two weeks of their contract period.
d. Vacation time may NOT be accrued from year to year without special authorization from the Regional DME Vacation time will not be paid out.
e. If a resident is given a leave of absence for reasons of maternity, physical or mental disabilities and returns to duty, he/she may continue the training to completion for the required 156 weeks of training.
f. No vacation time will be allowed during core program rotations (including medicine, critical care, pediatrics, VA. block nights) or those rotations lasting two weeks or less in duration. ONLY the Regional DME (PGY-1) or the Program Director (PGY-2) may permit exceptions.
g. Vacation time for Holiday periods must be worked out by the residents so as to ensure that no more than ½ the residents scheduled for any half-day are gone from the clinic.
h. To facilitate planning and increase the likelihood of approval, vacation requests for the next contract period should be turned in to the office of Medical Education by May 15 to facilitate the scheduling of core rotations for the next contract period.
