TIME OFF: ABSENCES/LEAVE/HOLIDAYS/VACATIONS

 

            = ;    1.            = UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

 

  &nbs= p;             = Unexcused absences from any rotation or clinic will be deducted from vacation time.

 

All leave of absence/vacation requests should be submitted at least 45 days in advance.  All requests are sub= ject to staffing requirements prior to approval.

 

 

            = ;    2.             HOLIDAYS

 

Listed below are the holidays that will be observed by interns and residents.  On-call interns and residents will= be required to work their assigned holiday schedules. 

 

        &= nbsp;       New Year’s Day

  &nbs= p;             = Memorial Day

  &nbs= p;             = July 4th

  &nbs= p;             = Labor Day
       &= nbsp;        Thanksgiving Day

  &nbs= p;             = Christmas

 

 

            = ;    3.             ELIGIBILITY FOR LEAVE

 

Subject to Hospital policy, The Program Director with the concurrence of the Region= al Director of Medical Education may have the prerogative, for educational purposes, of granting a total of ninety (90) days leave for any academic ye= ar, which time must be made up on a day for day basis.  In the event that more than ninety= (90) days leave is required in one year, a new contract must be negotiated.  For details regarding statutory eligibility and hospital regulations for other types of leave, please conta= ct the Human Resources Department.

            = ;    4.             VACATION<= /span>

 

a.        &= nbsp;    Interns are allowed ten (10) working days of vacation, professional, sick or other leave time.  Residents are all= owed ten (10) working days of vacation, professional= , sick or other leave and five (5) working days for CME each year.  One week (five days) of vacation t= ime is allowed continuous; the other five days should be taken separately (no more than two continuous weekdays).

 

b.        &= nbsp;    Requests for vacation time should be submitted to the Administrative DME  at least forty-five (45) days in a= dvance and be approved by the Chief Resident, Clinic Director (if applicable), Pro= gram Director and Regional DME.  Wh= en necessary or appropriate, interns and residents must find their own coverag= e.

 

c.        &= nbsp;    Residents may not have vacation time during the last two weeks of their contract period. 

 

d.        &= nbsp;    Vacation time may NOT be accrued from year to year with out special authorization fr= om the Regional DME.  Vacation ti= me will not be paid out.

 

e.    &nbs= p;        If a resident is given a leave of absence for reasons of maternity, physical or mental disabilities and returns to duty, he/she may continue the training to completion for the required 156 weeks of training.

 

f.        &= nbsp;     No vacation time will be allowed during core medicine rotations (including critical care, block nights, critical care) or those rotations lasting two weeks or less in duration.  ON= LY Regional DME or the Program Director may permit exceptions.

 

g.        &= nbsp;    Vacation time for Holiday periods must be worked = out by the residents so as to ensure that no more than ½ the residents scheduled for any half-day are gone from the clinic.

 

h.        &= nbsp;    To facilitate planning and increase the likelihood of approval, vacation reque= sts for the next contract period should be turned in to the office of Medical Education by May 15 to facilitate the scheduling of core rotations for the = next contract period.
